Industry mourns Jah Fabio’s sudden passing
Bounty Killer, Reggae Sumfest organizers, and Culture Minister Olivia Grange are among the many industry players sending condolences following the passing of Mexican Reggae entertainer Jah Fabio.
Taking to Instagram, Minister Olivia Grange extended sympathies to Jah Fabio’s family, friends, and fans. She remembered him as “a committed soldier to the cause” who “loved and embraced Reggae music with a passion.”
Jah Fabio was scheduled to perform at this year’s Reggae Sumfest in July. In a heartfelt tribute, the official Reggae Sumfest Instagram account shared a photo of the late entertainer, writing in part, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jah Fabio, a beloved member of the Sumfest family who has performed on our stage several times over the years. He was slated to return this year, and we were looking forward to welcoming him back with open arms.”
Dancehall heavyweight Bounty Killer also paid tribute, noting that while he never met Jah Fabio personally, he had seen several of his performances in Jamaica and abroad. Bounty hailed him as a “JaMexcian” who “loved Reggae and Dancehall to his core.”
Jah Fabio, born Favio Ve-lasco, passed away on Saturday in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was 43.
