India Complete 2–0 Series Sweep as West Indies Fall by Seven Wickets in Delhi

The West Indies, as expected, fell to a seven-wicket defeat to India on Tuesday’s fifth and final day of the second and final Test in Delhi, as the home team secured a 2–0 series victory.

Starting the day at 63 for one and needing just 58 more runs to seal the win, India cruised home in a little over an hour’s play, reaching 124 for three. KL Rahul finished unbeaten on 58, while Dhruv Jurel was not out on six as India wrapped up a comprehensive victory.

Sai Sudharsan added nine to his overnight 30 before falling for 39, and Shubman Gill made 13. For the West Indies, captain Roston Chase finished with figures of two for 36, while left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican claimed one for 38.

The result gave Shubman Gill his first series win as India’s Test captain and extended India’s dominance over the Caribbean side — their 10th straight victory against the West Indies in the format.

Final scores in the match were: India 518 for five declared and 124 for three; West Indies 248 and 390.

The series win lifted India to 61.9 percent of possible points on the ICC World Test Championship table, keeping them third in the standings.

Despite the defeat, West Indies captain Roston Chase found positives in his team’s performance and believes it can serve as a platform for growth.

“This is the kind of fight that I wanted to see from us from matches before, so I think this is a stepping stone for us to go forward and improve as a Test-playing nation,” Chase said after the match. “This the performance that I think will give us the confidence and boost us in terms of that belief that we can do it against proper Test playing nations.”

“Even if it’s for us to lose we have to lose in a good way in a positive way where we can have a lot of positives coming out of the game. Where we could improve mainly is our batting — that’s what let us down for the last two series. I think we have a good bowling attack, despite we had a few injuries, but I just think that once we can — put good first-innings totals on the board, we’ll be able to fight for some wins in the Test Championship.”

The West Indies will now turn their attention to white-ball cricket, with a limited-overs tour of Bangladesh next on the calendar. The squad is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on Wednesday night local time, ahead of Saturday’s opening One-Day International.
