The by-election in North Eastern St. Ann will go ahead as planned on September 30.

In a surprising twist, an independent candidate was nominated this morning.

Dressed in a white suit, with a yellow t-shirt-with the word “Jamaica” printed on the front, Mr. David Anderson, entered the electoral office at approximately 11 AM.

His successful nomination was confirmed moments ago.

Mr. Anderson will go up against the Jamaica Labour Party’s Matthew Samuda, who is to be nominated at 1 PM.

The People’s National Party has indicated it will not participate in the exercise.

The St. Ann North Eastern constituency became vacant following the resignation of Marsha Smith last week.

Meanwhile, Mr. Anderson says he is seeking to bring change to the constituency.
