INDECOM probing fatal shootings during alleged confrontations with lawmen in Hanover and St. Catherine on Thursday

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal shooting of two men by police in two parishes yesterday.

The incidents took place in New Forest, Hanover and Four Paths, Clarendon.

The deceased are 26-year-old Orandy West otherwise called “Spangy” of Folly Bush, Swansea, Clarendon and 33-year-old Remearo McCallum.

Speaking to IRIE FM News this morning, Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM Hamish Campbell said the incidents happened minutes apart.

He said police report that McCallum was fatally shot at around 1: 50 PM, after he and another man allegedly fired at lawmen.

Mr. Campbell said West was fatally shot in the other incident at around 2:15 PM.

He called on citizens who may have information on the incidents to come forward.

Police say both men were wanted for several crimes.

Meanwhile, the police have named several persons of interest in relation to the fatal shooting incidents.

In the Hanover incident, which targetted McCallum who was allegedly wanted for murder and shootings, officers claim they were fired upon by McCallum’s accomplice, Omar Calbert.

Head of the Hanover police, Deputy Superintendent Andrew Nish, urged Calbert to turn himself in.

Meantime, the Spanish town police have named five persons of interest in relation to the fatal shooting incident in that area.

Head of the St. Catherine North division, Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, urged the men being sought to turn themselves in.
