INDECOM probing 3 fatal shootings over 24 hours

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating the deaths of at least five people, resulting from police fatal shootings between yesterday and this afternoon.

The shootings occurred in Clarendon, Trelawny and Kingston.

INDECOM says its teams were notified and dispatched to investigate the circumstances of two fatal shooting incidents in Bunker’s Hill, Trelawny, and Rockfort, Kingston today.

Responding teams are still conducting investigations, and details are not yet available in those instances.

Meanwhile, the Commission is probing a triple fatal shooting in may pen, clarendon, yesterday.

The deceased men have been identified as, 35-year-old Rushane Latchman, 20-year-old Romaine Ferguson and 32-year-old Davion Bailey.

INDECOM’s Assistant Commissioner Hamish Campbell said, based on police reports, the driver of a car disobeyed a signalled to stop, and a chase ensued, during which there was an exchange of gunfire.

Three of 5 men from the vehicle were shot and later pronounced dead at hospital.

Mr. Campbell noted that none of the officers involved in the incident was wearing a body camera.

INDECOM says to date, 148 people have been shot and killed by the security forces.

Sixteen of them were fatally shot this month.
