Impasse with public sector medical consultants ends for now; they’re expected to resume normal duties today

The impasse with the island’s public sector medical consultants has ended for now, with the doctors expected to resume normal duties today.

A meeting yesterday, involving the Association of Government Medical Consultants (AGMC) and representatives from the Labour, Finance and Health Ministries, reportedly went well, and further talks are to be held soon.

Since Monday, the doctors have been taking industrial action, resulting in the cancellation or postponement of some services at health facilities.

They were upset over the delay in payment of their retroactive monies.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles jr said discussions will continue at the local level.

In the meantime, spokesman for the AGMC, Dr. Myrton Smith confirmed that the parties agreed to work towards an April payment deadline.
