IGL assures that adherence to all safety and health regulations is top priority following BK explosion
Industrial gas supplier, IGL Blue has sought to assure that adherence to all safety and health regulations is a top priority.
The gas provider’s assurance follows an explosion at the Burger King Restaurant in New Kingston yesterday morning, which left some employees with injuries.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade noted that gas build-up and the introduction of a naked flame triggered the explosion.
Operator of Burger King Jamaica, Restaurant Associates Limited also noted that employees at the New Kingston Branch reported a strong gas odour to the gas provider, ahead of the blast.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Lake said the gas provider carried out a routine delivery but soon after, staff members reported the gas smell.
She said the gas provider returned to the restaurant, made its checks and deemed the area safe for business.
In a press release moments ago, IGL noted that safety protocols are always followed.
IGL said this includes, regular maintenance and inspection of cylinders, proper training for delivery personnel, and adherence to all safety regulations during transportation and delivery.
It said as the gas provider for Burger King, it is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation led by the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
IGL also noted that it is conducting an internal investigation to understand what occurred.
