Iberostar’s management commits to addressing payroll and allowance issues which led to this morning’s protest at the hotel

The management of Iberostar Hotel in Montego Bay, St. James, has reportedly committed to addressing the payroll and allowance issues which led to a protest at the resort.

Placard-bearing workers converged at the entrance of the hotel’s compound this morning as they called for better treatment and salaries.

“We want more money” was their mantra.

The protest comes amid unrest within the tourism sector in recent weeks.

Earlier this week, staff at the Secrets and Breathless Resorts in Montego Bay, St. James, staged a protest calling for increased wages, among other things.

A week prior, workers at Royalton Hotel in Negril, Westmoreland, also protested over wage concerns.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright, noted that stakeholders held meetings throughout the day to discuss the issues.

Mr. Seiveright noted that the protest once again highlighted the need for open, consistent and face-to-face dialogue between management and staff at all levels so that concerns can be promptly addressed.
