Hurricane Melissa expected to make landfall at noon in St. Elizabeth
Hurricane Melissa is expected to make landfall in St. Elizabeth at about noon today, then exit Trelawny.
Principal Director of the MET service Evan Thompson gave the update at a press conference today.
He said hurricane Melissa is expected to make landfall as a category 5 hurricane in the Parottee area of St. Elizabeth.
The eye is expected to reach land by about mid-day. He said people should not go outside after 10 this morning.
Mr. Thompson warned of extensive infrastructural damage and urged residents to ensure they shelter in the strongest area.
Mr. Thompson said Melissa is expected to exit Jamaica via Trelawny as a possible category 3 or 4 hurricane.
