Hundreds of job seekers turn up for Health Ministry job fair

Hundreds of job seekers turned up at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus today for the Ministry of Health’s career expo and employment fair.

The event, which will run until tomorrow, is expected to recruit persons to fill 600 positions in the public health system.

Among the positions being recruited are medical officers, nurses, maintenance personnel, psychologists and social workers.

Speaking at the expo, Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted the importance of building the human capacity of the public health system, alongside the infrastructure, to ensure patients receive adequate care.

Meantime, the Prime Minister noted issues with the standard of care being provided in the public health system.

While citing cases where family members have alleged sub-standard care led to the deaths of their loved ones, he said these instances should not unfairly colour the system.
