Hundreds of Jamaican farm workers bound for Canada as Farm Work Programme expands
Jamaica’s Overseas Employment Programme, popularly known as the Farm Work Programme, continues to bear fruit, as 95 seasonal agricultural workers left the island for Canada yesterday, with hundreds more set to follow.
Minister of Labour, Pearnel Charles Jr., revealed that a larger contingent is scheduled to depart today, bound for multiple provinces across Canada to assist with the harvest of apples and other crops.
Since the start of the year, over 5000 Jamaicans have taken up overseas opportunities through the Ministry’s efforts.
