House Speaker Juliet Holness criticized for allegedly cancelling several parliamentary committee meetings
House Speaker Juliet Holness has come under fire from Opposition Members of Parliament who said she cancelled several parliamentary committee meetings this week.
The issue came up at yesterday’s meeting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC).
Chairman Mikael Phillips said an email was sent without prior consultation, advising of the cancellation of the PAAC meeting.
A subsequent email indicated that the meeting could proceed as planned.
Mr. Phillips said while only two members showed up, they formed a quorum and he would be proceeding with the agenda.
Meantime, commenting on the issue of the alleged unauthorized cancellation of the committee meetings, member Fitz Jackson said the House Speaker overstepped her authority.
Mr. Phillips said the issue is being discussed by the Leaders of Opposition and Government Business.
