Holness seeks legal advice regarding Integrity Commission report linking him to company that allegedly breached building laws
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has asked his lawyers to review the latest Integrity Commission report which linked him to a company that allegedly breached building laws, and provide further advice.
This, as he said he’s concerned that he is being targeted.
In a statement, Mr. Holness declared that he is not a director or shareholder of the company, which is the subject of the report, nor does he own the property in question.
As a result, he said he is puzzled as to why he is the subject of the report.
Mr. Holness’ statement said he has been informed that the development has been inspected by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), which has confirmed that the number of rooms approved is the number of rooms constructed.
He stated that based on the report, it is of grave concern that the investigators would ignore the statements given by the KSAMC which is the competent authority that they observed the development to be in structural conformity with the approved plan.
Mr. Holness added that it is also of concern that the investigators ignored the statements of the persons involved that explained the works being undertaken, and went on to draw conclusions on construction work that was in progress.
He stated that it seems more than coincidence, that this report was submitted to parliament a few days before the delivery of the judgement of the supreme court in a matter in which he is seeking judicial review of another report of the commission.
Mr. Holness said the fact that a statutory entity would exercise its powers in such a manner is troubling.
The Prime Minister added that what he calls a transparent attempt to attack his reputation will not deter him from serving Jamaica.
Mr. Holness said while the commission did not make conclusions or findings about him in the report tabled in the House of Representatives yesterday, he has asked his lawyers to review the report and provide further advice.
