Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the downward trend in the prices of some vegetables and other farm produce, six months after Hurricane Beryl, is indicative of Jamaica’s resilience and fiscal fitness.

Last July, the category four hurricane ravaged the island, impacting several crops, resulting in food prices soaring.

In Parliament on Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Floyd Green announced that nearly 70 per cent of vegetables saw price reductions, some by as much as 66 per cent.

In a video statement yesterday, the Prime Minister said the reduction in some of the farm gate prices is one of several ways in which the country shows its ability to withstand and recover from shocks while maintaining economic stability.

Mr. Holness noted that while more work is needed to stabilize prices, Jamaica’s economy is not where it used to be.
