Holness says if government sees fit, it could implement another SOE
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says, if the government sees fit, another state of public emergency, SOE could be declared.
He made the statement, following a lack of support from the opposition People’s National Party, for the extension of the measure, which was declared, in 10 police divisions, on November 15.
The SOEs will expire on Tuesday November 29.
The government needs the support of the opposition, for the extension of an existing SOE, but not for the declaration of the enhanced security measure.
The opposition, in sticking to its claim, that the SOE is unconstitutional, and that it will not support an extension, had suggested that the government could continue to re-implement the SOEs, once they expire.
Speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party’s central executive meeting, on Sunday, Prime Minister Holness said, if the need arises, his administration, will act to save lives.
