Holness says criminals will be pursued relentlessly but Jamaica’s brand will not be linked to unlawful killings

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says while criminals will be pursued relentlessly, their rights will be respected, as Jamaica’s brand will not be associated with unlawful killings.

In recent times, the security forces have come under pressure due to the high number of fatal shootings.

111 people have been fatally shot by the security forces since the start of the year.

Last week, human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice held a peaceful protest in St. Andrew and amplified calls for the use of body worn cameras.

JFJ and the Independent Commission of Investigations later met with the police high command on Friday.

Speaking at East Central St. James scholarship awards function, in Montego-Bay on Saturday, Dr. Holness said criminals will not be allowed to win.

He noted however, that Jamaica’s brand will not be associated with extra-judicial killings.

In the meantime, the prime minister issued a warning to criminals that they will be found.
