Holness says 30% of murders result from domestic disputes and must be addressed
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says 30 percent of murders result from domestic disputes and must be addressed.
Mr Holness also notes that 70 percent of murders are committed by gangs, pointing out that government has been successful in reducing the number of gangs from 300 to just under 180.
He states that efforts continue to limit their capabilities.
According to Mr Holness, the government has invested heavily in the security forces as part of efforts to control violence in the society.
He states that this is seen in the reduction in murders and other serious crimes.
While gang violence is being targeted, the prime minister says domestic disputes must also be addressed.
He notes that much of the actions to be taken will have some impact on the values and attitudes of the society.
Mr Holnes says the government will be unveiling a strategy on how to deal with violence.
He was speaking at a party meeting in North West St Ann last evening.
