Holness expects poverty prevalence to decrease from 12.3%
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he expects poverty prevalence to decrease from the 12.3 per cent recorded in 2023.
According to Mr. Holness, when he took office in 2016 the poverty prevalence was more than 20 per cent.
Speaking at the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s 20th Regional Investments & Capital Markets Conference, in Kingston, on Tuesday, Mr. Holness said he expects that the next survey will reveal a prevalence rate below 11 percent.
Noting that the minimum wage was increased recently, Mr. Holness hinted that there is more to come from his administration, as it seeks to reduce poverty.
