Ruling in hearing for release of Vybz Kartel and co-appellants to be handed down tomorrow
The ruling in the hearing for the release of Vybz Kartel and two of his co-appellants is expected to be handed down tomorrow in the Supreme Court.
The ruling will be delivered following today’s proceedings in court where arguments were made by the defense and the prosecution.
The Habeas Corpus application on behalf of the men was initially filed on May 13, but was adjourned due to insufficient time.
It follows the Privy Council’s March 14 ruling which quashed the convictions of Kartel whose given name is Adidja Palmer, Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell and Aundre St. John.
The three men, along with Kahira Jones were convicted for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
The privy council had ordered that the case be returned to Jamaica’s Appeal Court to decide whether a retrial is necessary.
Speaking with Irie Fm news on Wednesday afternoon, one of Kartel’s attorneys, Alessandra Labeach said the judge will make the decision in writing tomorrow.
