Hear the Children’s Cry warns that Jamaica is failing its children, describing the country as an “anti-child society”

Advocacy group hear the Children’s Cry (HTCC) is warning that Jamaica is failing its children, describing the country as an “anti-child society” where violence, abuse and neglect are becoming increasingly common.

The comments follow reports of the killing of 10-year-old Shani Coke, in Troy, Trelawny on Tuesday.

HTCC Director Nigel Cooper says there must be a stronger commitment from the public to protect children through practical interventions in the spaces they frequent.

Mr. Cooper is reiterating his call for the establishment of a ministry of family and parenting to more directly address issues affecting children.

He also called for greater vigilance by parents, guardians and the church to help protect the nation’s children.
