Health Ministry to undertake major career expo next month
The Health Ministry will be undertaking a major career expo next month, as part of efforts to get more Jamaicans to study for careers in the Health Care Industry.
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says the government will have to recruit Health Care Workers overseas, if significant numbers of Jamaicans do not pursue studies in the relevant areas.
He explains that there is a challenge in staffing health facilities, because of the mobility of Health Care Workers.
He says the ministry is assessing its human resource needs and seeking ways to train and place more local workers in positions that will be needed, especially with the enhanced health infrastructure.
The minister states that if that fails, the ministry will have to recruit externally.
He indicates that scholarships are being offered for training and an expo to promote careers in the Health Sector, is to be held next month.
He points to a Memorandum of Understanding, signed with the Philippines, that will explore training and recruitment.
