Health Ministry to launch Mpox public education campaign; Tufton to provide updates soon
The Health and Wellness Ministry is to commence a Public Education and Community Engagement Programme, as Jamaica prepares for Mpox.
Additionally Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton is to update the Cabinet and the public in the coming days.
He says the government is prepared should Mpox be detected on the island again.
His statement follows the World Health Organisation’s declaration of Mpox as a public health emergency of international concern.
Mpox has been detected in several countries, including Sweden and some African nations.
Noting that he met with the ministry’s technical team and the four regional health authorities, regarding Mpox today Dr. Tufton said Jamaica continues to prepare for the possible reintroduction of the virus.
