Health Ministry ramping up national efforts to reduce leptospirosis cases
Amid growing concerns about water safety in flood-affected communities, the Health Ministry says, it is ramping up national efforts to ensure the best possible protection of public health.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Portfolio Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said 371 boxes of chlorine aqua tablets have already been distributed across health regions.
He noted that these efforts are to safeguard communities against water-borne diseases, like leptospirosis.
He also gave the assurance that normality is being restored, noting progress in water-treatment operations and the recent arrival of key supplies to support the recovery effort.
With 65% of sewage plants now operational, Dr. Tufton said health teams are intensifying excreta-disposal assessments in flood-hit communities to reduce health risks.
