Health Minister assures that new Electronic Health Records System at May Pen Hospital will not pose confidentiality issues
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, has sought to assure that the newly implemented Electronic Health Records System (EHR) at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon, will not pose confidentiality issues for patients.
The EHR system, which was launched at the hospital yesterday, paves the way for enhanced technology, reduced patient wait time and improvements in data security, among other improvements relating to patient care.
It will also allow health professionals to access a patient’s medical history, through a database, whether at a health center or hospital.
However, Dr. Tufton acknowledged that the shift from a paper-based system may result in safety concerns, among some citizens.
He assured that several checks and balances have been put in place, to safeguard patients’ personal information.
