Head of the Roman Catholic Church in Jamaica expresses satisfaction with the election of Pope Leo XIV
Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kingston, the Most Reverend Kenneth Richards has expressed satisfaction with the election of Robert Francis Prevost as the new pope.
He will be known as Leo XIV.
Archbishop Richards said he is happy with the appointment, expressing confidence that Pope Leo XIV will continue in the path laid out by his predecessor, the late Pope Francis.
He also praised the seamless transition, stating that it reflects the Cardinals’ trust in Prevost’s leadership.

69-year-old, Pope Leo XIV is the first American to be elected Pontiff of the Catholic Church.
His appearance on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica was met with jubilant cheers from the thousands gathered in the square.
The new Pope’s election signals continuity with Francis’s legacy while marking a historic first in the Church’s long history.
