Head of Area 5 , A-C-P Gary Griffiths, notes reduction in serious and violent crimes for the first quarter of this year
Head of the Area 5 Police, Assistant Commissioner Gary Griffiths, has noted a reduction in serious and violent crimes for the first quarter of this year.
This, as he noted that all the divisions in the police area are seeing a reduction in murders.
Area five consists of St. Catherine North, St. Catherine South, St. Andrew North and St. Thomas.
Speaking at a town hall meeting put on by the St. Catherine South police on Sunday afternoon, A-C-P Griffiths noted that homicides are always a cause for concern, but the area has been doing well in that regard.
A-C-P Griffiths noted that at the last town hall meeting, he had set an ambitious target of having only 50 murders in the St. Catherine South division.
He explained that this would still be well above the world average for murders based on the population in the division.
While acknowledging that domestic violence is a major contributor to murders in the division, A-C-P Griffiths noted that these have to be targeted.
