The Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) says several challenges have prevented the transfer of the approximately 9,201 land titles in their custody to residents living in Brownfield Developments under the Operation Pride Programme.
The disclosure was made by Managing Director of the Agency, Doreen Prendergast at Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriation Committee on Wednesday.
She explained that many residents have failed to complete payments for their lots, even after 20 years despite heavy subsidies given to them.
Responding to Committee Chairman, Peter Bunting’s call for a transfer of the land titles to residents with a lien or mortgage, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development, Arlene Williams said the Government implemented various strategies to accommodate these residents.
