The Haitians, who arrived by boat at a beach at Long Road in Portland between Sunday night and Monday morning, were repatriated to their country last evening.

A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) vessel departed the Boundbrook wharf in Port Antonio bound for Haiti at about 7:00 PM.

Irie FM News understands that the group consisted of nine Haitians – five women and four men.

Reports are that on Sunday night, residents spotted a boat at a beach in Long Road and called the police.

Several items of clothing were found on the boat which was later burnt.

Subsequent operations by the police led to the capture of eight Haitians at Hope Bay in West Portland aboard a taxi.

One of the occupants was identified as a Haitian man who was already in the country and residing in St. James.

Another Haitian was reportedly captured on Tuesday night.
