Guyana Harpy Eagles trio sanctioned for Code of Conduct breaches in West Indies Championship
Three players from the Guyana Harpy Eagles have been found guilty of breaching the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Code of Conduct during their final round match in the West Indies Championship against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Veteran spinner Veerasammy Permaul was fined 75 per cent of his match fee for a Level 2 breach on day one of the match. Permaul admitted to changing the condition of the ball, which falls under Article 2.1–2.5; Paragraph 3.8 of the CWI Code of Conduct and is in violation of Law 42.3 of the Laws of Cricket. The charge was laid by on-field umpires Christopher Taylor and Kashif Sandy at the close of play on the first day. Permaul accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Michael Ragoonath, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
Kevlon Anderson was also found guilty of a similar offense during day three of the match, in the second innings of the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force. Anderson was fined 90 per cent of his match fee and likewise accepted the proposed sanction without the need for a hearing. In both Permaul’s and Anderson’s incidents, the ball was replaced, and the batting team was given the choice of the replacement.
Meanwhile, medium pacer Ronaldo Alimohamed was penalized for a separate Level 2 offense, after breaching Article 2.1–2.5; Paragraph 3.6 of the Code of Conduct. He was charged for throwing “The ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a player or official in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner.” Initially denying the charge—which carried a 60 per cent fine—Alimohamed was later found guilty following a hearing with match referee Ragoonath and was subsequently fined 65 per cent of his match fee.
All three offenses fall under Level 2 of the CWI Code of Conduct, which carries penalties ranging from a fine of 50 to 100 per cent of the match fee, and/or suspension for one first-class or two one-day matches.
