Grief counselling being offered to family of boy who drowned in tank

Grief counselling and other support are being provided to a St. Elizabeth family after a young boy reportedly drowned in a tank at home yesterday.

Dead is 9 year old Samuel Clarke of Long Hill district.

He was a student of the Goshen primary school.

Reports are that about 5:30 p.m. a neighbour discovered the child floating in a tank at the rear of the premises and raised an alarm.

The police were summoned and Clarke was taken to hospital where death was confirmed.

Step father Janoy Brown said based on reports, Clarke was attempting to retrieve ball when he fell into the tank.

Meantime, operations officer for the St. Elizabeth police division Deputy Superintendent Owen Brown said officers from the community safety and security branch will be visiting the family and school to offer support.

DSP Brown is urging parents and guardians to be extra vigilant, especially with tanks that were left exposed due to Hurricane Melissa.
