Grand Bahia Principe hotel workers join protests for better wages and work conditions
Workers of another of the island’s hotels are protesting.
The latest strike by employees of the Grand Bahia Principe Resort in Runaway Bay, St. Ann is underway outside the hotel’s gates.
The workers are demanding increased wages and better treatment.
IRIE FM News understands that the hotel’s general manager is to meet with the employees.
The Grand Bahia workers are the 6th group of hotel employees to protest in recent weeks.
Protests over similar concerns were staged by workers at Excellence Oyster Bay in Trelawny, Iberostar Hotel, Secrets and Breathless Resorts in St. James and Royalton Negril in Westmoreland.
Yesterday, the Labour Ministry said it has commenced an industry assessment into the tourism sector.
The results of that assessment are expected in January next year.
