Gramps Morgan elated at receiving GG’s award.

Multi-award winning Reggae crooner Gramps Morgan was among the 2024 recipients of the Diaspora Governor General’s Achievement Awards at a ceremony held on Wednesday, the final day of the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay.

In a Music News interview, the People Like You hitmaker says many awards can be given throughout the career of an artiste but being recognized by the government and people of Jamaica means a lot to him.

Gramps received the award for supporting education, community development and healthcare, partnering with the Issa Trust Foundation alongside Third World to raise over $400,000 USD which will go towards building a state-of-the-art children’s hospital in St. Ann.

Established in 2008 and presented biennially to six Jamaicans living in the UK, US or Canada, the Diaspora Governor General’s Achievement Awards recognizes persons who have demonstrated active and significant service towards the development of their community of residence in Jamaica.

This year’s other recipients were Dr Dahlia Ann Blake for her contribution to medicine, Mark Henry for supporting diaspora members, Steven Getten for youth advocacy and Dr Pearl Ann Jarrett for community service.
