Gov’t to increase daily stipend for empanelled jurors to $6,000
The government will be increasing the stipend for jurors, who are empanelled, to 6 thousand dollars per day.
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck gave the update while making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament yesterday.
It comes in the wake of concern by some persons selected for jury duty that attending court places a financial burden on them, as being away from work affects their pay.
They also said paying for transportation to and from court, as well as lunch, worsen the issue.
Mr. Chuck said the challenges have been noted, hence the ministry’s response.
