Gov’t says Jamaicans foot streetlight bill of over $300M each month
Jamaicans foot a streetlight bill of over 300 million dollars each month.
This was revealed by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie.
Speaking during the swearing in of councilors at the Trelawny Municipal Corporation yesterday, Mr. McKenzie said each month, contributions from taxpayers are used by the government to settle streetlight bills from the Jamaica Public Service of over 300 million dollars.
He said except for the current bill, the government has cleared it’s streetlight arrears.
In the meantime, Mr. McKenzie is urging the JPS to improve the quality of its service by repairing streetlights.
He will be seeking to meet with the JPS to discuss these and other issues affecting citizens.
