Gov’t revises budget with $40.7B increase in expenditure
The effects of Hurricane Beryl, as well as travel advisories, on Jamaica’s tourism sector, resulted in economic shocks, and a 2.1 percent decline for the third quarter of this calendar year.
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke said the growth shock is expected to result in a contraction of 0.2 percent, for this fiscal year, down from 1.8 percent.
Dr. Clarke gave the update, in parliament yesterday, as he tabled the first Supplementary
Estimates and the Fiscal Policy Paper interim report.
The supplementary estimates provide for an increase in expenditure by 40.7 billion dollars.
Dr. Clarke explained that increased non-tax revenue will fund the revised budget.
The Supplementary Estimates will be deliberated on, by Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC.
The committee will meet today at 10 a-m.
