Gov’t raises concern over appointment of Roneiph Lawrence as IC’s Acting Director of Corruption Prosecution
The leaders of Government Business in both Houses of Parliament, Ed Bartlett and Kamina Johnson Smith, have written a letter indicating their concern with the appointment of Roneiph Lawrence as Acting Director of Corruption Prosecution at the Integrity Commission.
The commission announced Lawrence’s appointment on its website.
The government’s objection is due to Lawrence’s reported close friendship with People’s National Party, PNP General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell.
Mr. Bartlett and Mrs. Johnson Smith noted that on January 26 this year, Dr. Campbell posted a photograph of himself, Mr. Lawrence and 3 other men, to Instagram with the caption, “over 20 years of friendship”.
In a letter which was sent to Chairman of the Integrity Commission Carol Lawrence Beswick on Friday, the government members outlined their concern.
They said they are not questioning Mr. Lawrence’s qualifications but they are concerned about possible conflict of interest.
