Gov’t officials and trade unions meet today to discuss vexed wage issue
Finance Minister Fayval Williams, other government officials and several trade unions are engaged in wage talks at Jamaica House, in Kingston.
The meeting comes after public sector groups, including the Jamaica Teachers Association, JTA, took issue with the government’s zero per cent wage offer.
The Association had said if a better offer is not made, it reserves the right to activate all its machinery to respond.
Speaking at the JTA’s conference yesterday, Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon revealed that government officials, the unions and the opposition, among other stakeholders, would meet to discuss the matter today.
And, the Jamaica Civil Service Association, JCSA, which called on the Finance Minister to clarify recent statements she made about compensation packages for public sector workers, said it expects a favourable outcome.
On Tuesday, the JCSA said suggestions by Ms. Williams that the majority of public servants have already received a salary increase for the 2025/2026 financial year, are false.
Speaking with Irie FM News, Acting President of the JCSA Kelvin Thomas said the union will lobby for a better increase, today.
And, President of the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees, UCASE Vincent Morrison said the workers he represents have stressed that the current offer is unacceptable.
He too is hoping for a good outcome.
