Gov’t considering use of overnight curfews to help reduce traffic congestion on roadways leading to parishes worst affected by Hurricane Melissa
The Government is considering the use of overnight curfews, as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion on roadways leading to parishes devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
Information Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon, made the disclosure at a press conference today.
Since the passage of Hurricane Melissa, concern has been expressed about the heavy traffic on roads leading to St Elizabeth and Westmoreland and the challenges that created for emergency vehicles and units heading there for relief operations.
Persons have been urged not to go to the area for sight seeing.
Dr. Morris Dixon explained that a decision has not yet been taken on the matter, but underscored that certain roads need to have no traffic to facilitate them being cleared.
That matter was discussed by cabinet.
