The government is committing $600m to support tourism workers affected by the passage of Hurricane Melissa last month.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett made the announcement during a tour of hotels and attractions in Ocho Rios, St. Ann yesterday.

Areas visited include Moon Palace Jamaica, Hibiscus Lodge, Riu Mammee Bay, Sandals Dunn’s River and Dunn’s River Falls.

Mr. Bartlett said other players in the tourism sector are also contributing $400m.

In the meantime, he noted that there will be a staggering reopening of the sector with some hotels set to resume operations next year.
