Gov’t allocates $20M towards drought mitigation efforts in Portland

More help is coming for Portland the parish known traditionally as the wettest in the island but has now become the driest due to the ongoing drought.

This, as government has allocated an additional 20 million dollars to assist residents in communities that do not have water.

In parliament Yesterday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness used graphs to show how badly the drought is affecting Portland.

He said the projection is troubling.

Mr. Holness said aside from the extra help for Portland, other drought mitigation measures already implemented islandwide, will be continued.
