Governmnet implements $134M response and recovery programme for farmers impacted by weather events
Government has implemented a $134 million dollar response and recovery programme for farmers affected by recent adverse weather events.
Agriculture Minister Floyd Green told parliament on Tuesday that the island‘s farmers should be commended for their resilience, as they have gone all out to restore the sector after it was ravaged by drought and hurricanes.
Mr. Green said with the expected impact of more dry months to come, the ministry has been proactive in assisting farmers.
These include, providing trucked water.
He said the ministry is in the process of procuring tanks and drip irrigation kits.
Mr. Green said the ministry has partnered with some aid agencies, which will distribute more items to farmers over the next few weeks.
