Governmnent says Jamaica has to be aware and nimble in how it responds to trade war between China and US
Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Senator Aubyn Hill says Jamaica has to be aware and nimble in how it responds to the trade war between the United States and China.
The United States announced a 104% tariff on goods from China which came into effect today.
In response, China accusing the White House of bullying practices, has announced an 84% tariff on imports from the United States which is to come into effect tomorrow.
Last week US President Donald Trump also introduced a blanket 10% tariff on other imports, part of a broader effort to bring manufacturing back to the US.
Speaking at this morning’s Post Cabinet Press Briefing, Mr Hill said while the war is not aimed at Jamaica, government is still assessing the situation.
He said Jamaica is not getting into the trade war and must do all it can to look after Jamaicans.
Mr Hill noted that there are many opportunities and Jamaica must find them and make them work.
