Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is working on ensuring that contractors are paid early or on time so that projects can be completed efficiently.

Over the years, there have been complaints from contractors about late payments for work done on some government projects.

Mr. Holness said that in a bid to mend the relationship with contracting companies, the government will be seeking to improve the payment process.

He added that the government wants to be more supportive of local contractors so that more project options are available to them.

He said the government must hold discussions with contractors and work out a proper system that supports them.

Mr. Holness explained that over the next 10 years, a major contractor will be needed to carry out work on the island’s road network.
