Government to ramp up crop production in other parishes to offset the impacts of Hurricane Beryl in St. Elizabeth
Government will be ramping up crop production in other parishes to offset the impacts of Hurricane Beryl in the parishes which suffered the brunt of damage.
St. Elizabeth, which is considered the breadbasket parish, was the heaviest hit in the July 3 hurricane.
It’s understood that several residents in St. Elizabeth are still without power.
Agriculture Minister Floyd Green noted that while St. Elizabeth suffered the brunt of the damage, other parishes also suffered loss in crops they specialize in.
As such, he said steps are being taken to increase production in other parishes.
The minister noted that while crop prices will increase, government will seek to shorten the recovery cycle.
