Government to proceed with construction of phase 2 of Ruthven Towers Apartments despite criticisms
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the Government will proceed with the construction of phase 2 of the Ruthven Towers Apartments in Kingston 10.
This, after public outrage about the prices of the apartments which ranged from 27 to 37 million dollars, criticism about the target market for the National Housing Trust (NHT), and a lack of access to affordable housing for many low-income earners.
Speaking yesterday (August 3) at a handing-over ceremony, Mr Holness said Government re-evaluated its decision about phase 2 of the project.
He said the Government wants to ensure that the project fits within the mandate that has been given to the NHT, which is to build 70 thousand houses for low-income earners.
Mr Holness cautioned against what he described as wild comments that distract from the project.
