Government to improve processes for social housing programme, speedier delivery of units expected
The government is seeking to improve the processes for the social housing programme to enable speedier delivery of the units to those in need.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness said while there has been some improvement, the government wants to hand over up to 100 houses each month to make the necessary impact on the lives of Jamaicans.
He said it’s estimated that about six thousand households across the country qualify for social housing, based on the applications for assistance that have been received.
Mr Holness who spoke at the handing over of a house in West Central St Andrew on Wednesday, stated it was a long process to get the house to the new home owner.
He said the government is figuring out how to increase the number of houses constructed each month.
The Prime Minister stated that this week some 12 houses are being handed over.
