The Ministry of Education will be implementing a series of early grade reading teacher training workshops, starting next Monday, June 23.

Senior Education Officer Dr. Novelette Mclean-Francis said the initiative aims to support and re-tool teachers to implement the reading programme effectively, as stipulated in the national standard curriculum.

This announcement follows recent reports that some high school students are unable to read at the required level.

Dr Mclean-Francis says the initiative will also boost efforts already made by teachers.

She was speaking at yesterday’s Post Cabinet Press Briefing.
