Government targets installation of 2000 CCTV cameras under the JamaicaEye programme in the next financial year

Government is targeting the installation of 2000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras under the JamaicaEye programme within the next financial year.

Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang made the announcement recently, while highlighting the government’s continued effort to expand the network.

He said surveys have been completed to look at what is required nationally in relation to the CCTV cameras and they are also in the process of installing the C-5, or Command Centre, which deals with both cyber and communication.

He said the Command-and-Control Centre will integrate, coordinate and analyse data in real time from all available contact points, with the necessary back-end support.

The public-private partnership launched in 2018 is designed to network CCTV cameras owned by the ministry as well as accommodate feeds from privately owned cameras.

The feeds provide footage related to criminal activity and other emergencies and are monitored by a team of security professionals.
