The government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the advancement of nuclear technologies adoption.

The agreement was signed with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Limited and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited this morning.

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz said the MOU marks a significant milestone in Jamaica’s journey towards sustainable energy development.

He explained that the agreement facilitates partnerships in various areas, including nuclear power production and waste management.

Mr. Vaz stated that the world is increasingly recognizing the need for diversified energy sources, noting that nuclear power is emerging as a key factor in this transition.

A key aspect of the MOU is the exchange of scientists, engineers and other specialists.

Mr. Vaz explained that the collaboration will foster the sharing of knowledge, skills and best practices, while driving innovation in research, development and practical applications.
