Government senator and senior member of the Jamaica Labour Party’s Communication’s Taskforce, Marlon Morgan, is calling on citizens to stand in solidarity with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, (JCF) by wearing blue tomorrow.

His appeal comes, as human rights lobby group Jamaicans For Justice has indicated, that it will lead a protest in Half Way Tree St. Andrew tomorrow, to highlight concerns about the increase in fatal shootings by members of the security forces.

106 people have been fatally shot by the security forces since the start of the year.

JFJ has urged citizens to join Tuesday’s protest which is also aimed at amplifying the call for greater accountability through the use of body-worn cameras.

In a statement today, Senator Morgan said given the scourge of criminality, it cannot be denied that the police work under very tough and trying circumstances.

He said the energies of all well-thinking and law-abiding Jamaicans should be focused on supporting and encouraging members of the JCF not tearing them down.

Noting the 36.6% reduction in murders, Senator Morgan warned against actions that demoralize the police.
